About Abroad Eye
Karibu !Welcome to Abroad Eye
By Wangui Wokabi
Abroad Eye is a space for stories, experiences, and perspectives shaped by curiosity.
The name has never simply been about being “abroad.” To me, it is about looking beyond what is familiar; through travel, aviation, culture, education, people, and everyday life.
A little about the person behind it
Hi, I’m Wangui Wokabi.but most people know me as Jenny’
Reading has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Kenya, Sundays often meant the Sunday Nation newspaper;a small tradition that helped build a culture of reading in me from an early age.
By high school, English and particularly Literature had become my favorite subject. That love for words eventually followed me to a four-year university, where I studied English and Literature. It deepened my love for reading and writing, introduced me to different ideas and perspectives, and, most importantly, taught me to become an independent thinker.
Creativity has taken many forms throughout my life. For nearly a decade, one of those was makeup artistry,a passion that eventually grew into a small business and became a significant chapter of my life. Many people who have known me over the years probably knew that version of me first.
My journey has also included teaching and tutoring, documenting parts of my life on YouTube, going back to school, discovering new interests, traveling, and, more recently, finding myself increasingly fascinated by the world of aviation.
I don’t believe we have to remain one version of ourselves.
We can grow, change direction, discover new interests, return to old passions, and continue becoming.
Abroad Eye is where I get to write from somewhere in the middle of all of that.
There will be stories about places, people, aviation, culture, education, life, and whatever else makes me curious enough to stop and look a little closer.
The rest?
I think I’d rather tell you through the stories.
At a time when AI is changing how we learn, create, and communicate, I also hope Abroad Eye encourages something I believe is still incredibly important: a culture of reading and writing. I’m learning too;-learning to write better, read more intentionally, think critically, and remain curious. This blog is part of that journey.
A Special Dedication
Behind every story I get to tell is a story that began with two people who believed enough in their daughter to give her an education, encourage her dreams, and give her the freedom to think for herself.
To Mum and Dad;my first examples of strength and resilience.
Your strength, determination, and the way you navigate life have shaped so much of the way I see the world.
The opportunity you gave me to study English and Literature nurtured my love for reading and storytelling and, most importantly, taught me to become an independent thinker.
Years later, as I return to something I have always loved;-reading, writing, and storytelling I realize that the foundation for Abroad Eye began long before this blog did.
This blog is in a very special way, dedicated to you.
You are my true role models, and I will always look up to you. ❤️
